Hi Jabs

Alcohol adds calories to the diet, and the basic equation of weight gain and loss is that if your calorie intake exceeds your use, then you gain weight. Now, alcohol is quite high in 'empty calories', which aren't really used for any useful purpose in the body, and for this reason, they do tend to get stored as fat. It's no co-incidence that the 'beer' belly is associated with alcohol intake. Now, in moderation, this won't be a problem and it would be foolish to say that all alcohol will hinder your progress, but certainly, excessive alcohol intake does not combine well with toning, weight loss and weight control.
