I would like to find out if you need to drink protein during an endurance event and if you need to how much?

HI Sarah

I don't believe that you do, unless it's a really long endurance event. For example, the mountain bikers in the Cape Epic do about six hours a day, over a week of exercise, and so for them, proteins are important. But for a marathon, maybe lasting 4 hours, it's not vital because the body has sufficient energy from carbs and fat for the event. Again, though if you have to repeat the exercise then it's important. The body breaks protein down during exercise but it is not used for energy unless the body is energy depleted, and that only happens when exercise lasts almost a day, or when exercise is repeated. So rather focus on optimizing your carb stores, and training so that you can use fat instead.

Good luck
