Excercise and weight gain

Over the passed 6 months I have lost about 10 Kg by dieting and exercising. My exercise program consists of 20 min cycle, 20 min jog and 20 min steps. For two months I was off my diet and I was able to maintain my weight by following my gym routine (3-5 times a week). Recently I have been exercising on the Super Circuit and doing some weights afterwards and every night doing some abs exercises. I exercise on the circuit 2 nights a week and do my normal cardio exercise the other 2 nights. Since I started doing this 3 weeks ago I have gained 2 kg. I am still a bit overweight but I do have quite a broad build (BMI of 27). Do you think this weight gain is because of bad eating habits or would it be muscle gain?

Hi Ak

It's hard to say it's one or the other. I can say that 2kg of weight gain in the last month or 6 weeks is not that unbelievable, that it can't be a simple case of muscle mass. So it's reasonable to expect that your increase is due to muscle gains, which is not a bad thing. I do suggest that you continue with cardio though, because that is going to cause further weight LOSS, once the muscle gain has stabilised, which it will do. So keep up the cardio, like you did in the first 6 months, and you will eventually reach an ideal body weight for your height. If this happens to be above a BMI of 25, so be it, but I am pretty sure that if you are genuinely eating well and exercising right, you will get below this.

Good luck
