Exercise/energy endurance capsule
I was given a pill - all natural hebal extract containing sida cordifolia(aka ephedrine), ginger root, caffeine (200mg per capsule) etc. I made enquiries on their website, but this particular product has been discontinued because it contains ephedrine. What are the side efeects/special precautions that I should be wary about.

Hi Samantha

Ephedrine is a pretty well known substance, and has a deserved bad reputation in my opinion. Ephedrine is a central nervous stimulant. The idea of these stimulants is to elevate the body's resting and exercising metabolic rate, and they may do this, but they can't act only the metabolic rate, and so you get all these other effects, such as dizziness, sweating, impaired renal and gastric function etc. In fact, ephedrine containing products were even banned in certain states in the USA because they were linked to deaths caused by heatstroke, because they interfere with the body's ability to control temperature. Basically, it's a mild stimulant, and the next step up is amphetamines, which we know are very dangerous and potentially lethal. So, even if it was just for ephedrine, I would not recommend the sue of the product. As for the other substances, you have to remember that just because something is herbal does not guarantee safety, and quite honestly, who knows what side effects they may have. at this stage, we don't, but that's what was said about ephedrine once too.

Good luck
