First time comrades
Need advice on preparing for comrades - I do regular gym and run approx 25 - 30 km per week Rested heart rate 54 Age 55
Hi nach
now is a good time to start, so it's good that you are thinking this way.
Now, I can't give you a day by day programme on the forum, unfortunately, so what I do suggest is that you refer to the following website: http://worldofendurance.com/runnersguide/main.asp
The most important thing is to set realistic goals, otherwise the sheer scale of training for comrades will beat you. So, my first piece of advice is to aim for the qualifier. I would say you should choose a marathon in about 3 to 4 months (April/may) and then get fit for that. once you cross the marathon barrier, you can relatively easily maintain your training and then build up very slightly to reach the comrades mark by June. That is why the World of Endurance site is a good place to start, if you choose the marathon programme. You will see that closer to the time of the race, there will be a link for Comrades training as well. However, as I said, I would aim for April first, get the marathon done, and then take it from there.
I hope this helps
Good luck
