Sprained Ankle
Hi Doc,
I sprained my ankle for the second time in two months last weekend. It is still very bruised and sensitive and thus haven't been able to do any gym for the past 10 days which is driving me mad. What can I do at gym to get back into the swing of things and what exercises can I do to strengthen it?

You may be able to get away with some cycling orswimming, an activity that is non weight bearing. However if you are having difficulty with the ankle then you must avoid rushing back into activity or you will end up with a third sprain. I also suggest that in the future you look at sorting out whatever problem there is. You might be able to do this alone after a while, but for the first few days I do suggest that you see a physio. You will need to do what are called propriocptive exercises, to strengthen the ligaments and also improve the control of the ankle and to do this, you may ned some specialised equipment and so my advice is to see a physio, at least at first.
