Tapering from training
Hi!
I've been training quite intensely for 94.7 for about 2 months. I am just wondering how I should taper (slow down) my training before the event. Should I not train for a week before or can I put in a heavy session on the Tuesday before the Sunday event?
Thanks very much!

Hi Jono
I think you should certainly continue to train, otherwise you get that 'heavy-legged' feeling on race day. So my advcie would be that your only slightly hard day should be the Tuesday, but do a short, relatively brisk session on the Thursday as well, and very very very easy rides of about 30 to 45 minutes on the Wednesday and Friday. The main thing is to keep moving without straining. So don't get yourself stuck in a strong headwind, going uphill and racing to make it home in time for dinner on the Friday afternoon! But certainly, keep riding, spinning (that is, high cadence when you are on the road - don't grind the big gears now) and keeping your legs loose .
Good luck
