TONING ARMS AND LEGS
HI THERE! I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF IT IS BETTER FOR WOMAN TO LIFT LIGHTER WEIGHTS AND DO MORE REPS THAN HEAVIER WEIGHTS AND FEWER REPS TO TONE UP LEGS AND ARMS? I WANT TONE AND DEFINE MY ARMS AND LEGS WITHOUT ADDING BULK (THE REASON I AM ASKING THIS IS BECAUSE I HAVE STARTED DOING MORE WEIGHT TRAINING SESSIONS AND MY TOPS ARE FEELING A LOT TIGHTER AROUND MY ARMS AND WAS WONDERING IF I SHOULD BE CONCERTRATING ON LIFTING LIGHTER WEIGHTS AND DOING MORE REPS??) AND HOW LIGHT IS LIGHT WEIGHTS?
THANKS FOR YOU HELP

Hi GSA

For toning the better option is definitely to do more reps with a lighter weight. The alternative, lifting a heavy weight fewer times does build muscle and this is very much a power type training activity. Having said that, you do have to realise that any time you define muscle, you are building as well (the two are implied, you can't define without at least creating muscle) and so the fact that your shirts are tighter is probably normal, even if you were doing very light weights. It may pay to reduce the weights slightly though - saying what constitutes light is a bit dodgy, because everyone is different, but in general, you should be able to do about 15 repetitions using the weight, and then perform 3 sets, and you should not ever feel like you are straining excessively. You learn from experience, but if you are struggling after only 7 or 8 reps, then it's probably too heavy, and you should lower the weight slightly.

I hope this helps
