Low Libido
My partner and I are in a loving Lesbian relationship and have been together for 6 years and we love eachother to bits. LIke most relationships our intimacy levels were frequent in the earlier years of our relationship. We are very comfortable with eachother and have formed a great life. Unfortunately our sex life has taken a dive over the last 2 years and we need help in rekindling the intimacy flame. We've gone from daily to weekly to what seems like monthly sex. We both agree that nothing seems to be 'wrong' but any tips on how to regain our zest will help.

Is this perhaps just a case of a comfort zone?

Hi JAV and thank you for posting your message.

It is not uncommon for lesbian relationships to move away from being highly sexually expressive, with a decrease in sexual interaction between partners. For many couples this presents as a problem, while other couples are comfortable with this. It depends on how you choose to frame the issue. No doubt your relationship is fine without the sexual content, with a solid foundation in terms of trust, comfort, values and communication. For many couples, these factors outweigh the need for sexual interaction.

Don't get stressed about this - but if it is an issue you could benefit from a few sessions of couple counselling with a lesbian-friendly therapist. Call the Gay & Lesbian Helpline on (021) 4 222 500 any day between 1 pm and 9 pm for the name of a therapist near you.
