Ceasar - My choice?
Hi there,

I am 28 years old and 27 weeks pregnant with my first baby, and so far have a had very healthy pregnancy, I really feel very blessed. I have spoken to a ton of women (including my mom!) and done a lot of reading on giving birth, etc. For various reasons, I have now finally come to the conclusion that I would like to rather have a ceaser done than do normal birth.

So my question is this - If I am healthy and able to handle an operation, is it MY choice to opt for a ceasar and can my gynea say no? She has already indicated that she is pro normal birth, but I would like to discuss my concerns at my next visit with her, and just want to know where do I stand as to what my rights are.

After all it is my body, and I have to live with it for the rest of my life!

Thanks Doc, and all the readers. A lot of previous questions & answers are very helpful and insightful re pregnancy.

You have the right to request a Caesar and your doctor has a right to refuse if she does not feel it is the right option for you. She would after all be doing the operation and has to take responsibility for any complications which may occur, so she has some say in the matter. If this were the case, you would have the option of seeing another gynaecologist.

Best wishes
