Full hysterectomy - what now?
Hi there

My mom (47) had a full hysterectomy done in May this year. She was advised to undergo the operation due to suffering from constant menstrual bleeding. After the operation the doc told her that if they had left the operation any longer she probably would have developed cancer judging from the growths he saw.

I took care of my mom for 6 weeks following the operation, to ensure that she got plenty of rest and support.

Now, months later she tells me that her tummy still sometimes swells, leaving her feeling bloated and uncomfortable. She also says that it hurts when she presses on her lower stomach area and it feels hard. She also battles with constant bladder infections.

Is this normal?

Thank you.

Bladder infections can sometimes occur after a hysterectomy. This may be the cause for her discomfort. I would suggest that she sees her gynaecologist again.

Best wishes
