IUD during pregnancy
To my surprise I fell pregnant with an IUD in place and only found out when I was about 10 weeks along (went to the doctor due to heavy menstrual bleeding). Although the doctor attempted to remove the IUD, the strings were to high up (uterus has swollen as result of pregnancy) and he could not do it. To make a long story short, I miscarried after three weeks in hospital (a lot of bleeding and crampin), and results indicated that it was due to an uteral infection (probably as a result of the IUD). My question is: Could the IUD have been removed surgically?
No. IUCDs can sometimes be remoevd in early pregnancy if the strings are visible. Otherwise they have to be ledt till the delivery time.
