laparotomy during second trimester
Hi Gyneadoc and everyone else,
I posted a while ago about a possible corpus luteum cyst that was 8cm's on my left ovary but it turns out not to be that - unfortunately. Saw the gynae yesterday for the 12 week nuchal fold scan and he said that the growth is either a fibroid or a possible cancerous growth so he ordered the cancer marker bloodtests along with the maternal triple tests. He has said that it would be risky to leave the growth as it is quite big now 10cm's and in close proximity to the uterus so he wants to do a laparotomy in my 16th week (i'm now 12 weeks) to remove the growth and the left ovary. I'm terrified! What are the risks to my baby and of this op that far along in my pregnancy? Please help??

If it is a fibroid, there would unfortunately be a risk of miscarriage if it is removed. If it is a cyst on the ovary, the risks are much less.
Best wishes
