There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
A caesarean is an operation and there is therefore the risk of complications such as bleeding, infection and anaeshetic complications. How often these occur depends on the individual woman - whether there are any medical problems, pregnancy complications, overweight. In general it is safer for the baby, but vaginal birth is pretty safe in ther majority of cases where there are no complications in the pregnancy. Vaginal birth has less risks to the mother than an operation does. There is stretching of the vagina and difficulty with bladder control in a small percentage of women.
