Scare of my life
I am not too sure if this is the place to ask this question but I need the following advice please. I am 26 years old and have been on the pill since I was 15. I have been sexually active in the past and I have never seen a gynae before, which I know is terrible but I am so scared and shy.

Last night I was talking to my mom as she needs to go to the gynae today as she says it feels like her last ovary has packed up. My mom disclosed to me last night that apparently breast cancer runs in our family and that she may not take HRT pills because of that. Is that true? Why? and if so is there anything else that can be recommended to her? Also what type of risk do I have due to the breast cancer that runs in the family and me being on the pill for so long. I do check my breasts but is there anything else that is negative about this.

Kind regards

There is a higher incidence of breast cancer in women who take HRT, so if there is a family history, there would be an additional risk factor. In terms of other options for your mother, it depends what her symptoms are. Your risk for breast cancer depends on who in your family has had it. If a parent or sister has had it, this would mean a significantly increased risk. There is a breast cancer gene which can be tested for. This tends to run in families.
