Dear Clueless
This depends on the degree of bone loss and a variety of other factors. One can never regain bone density fully and at best can gain a few percent if osteoporosis is actively treated with bone active drugs.
Lifestyle is extemely important to maintain bone density- ensure a calcium intake of at least 1000mg per day, do weigthbearing exercise at least 3 times a week, don't smoke and drink alcohol moderately. If you have any risk factors for developing osteoporosis, be extra good with the lifestyle factors. For more info you can contact the osteoporosis foundation on 021 931 7894.
