Back injury and IOD
Hallo Doctor,
On the 3rd of march I was pushing a wheelchair with a patient and the front wheel got stuck. To prevent the patient from falling I reached forward with a twisting motion of my upper body and I bumped my leg(abrasion wound). I went to the occupational health sister and reported the incident and we cleaned the wound. The following tuesday when I got out of bed to go to work I struggled to walk as my right leg didn`t want to bear weight and I had a severe backache. On the 20th I could no longer stand the pain, went for x-rays and had a MRI which showed a herniated disc L5/S1. My question is can we still complete IOD forms? And if not what can I do. I`m a nursing sister and my work requires me to pick up heavy objects and patients.
Thank you for your time

You certaintly can and should have completed forms and an internal incident for. Once this is done, ask your treating doc to complete the required First medical etc. You would be remiss in not processing this as an IOD.
