Recurrent ingrown toenail
One of my big toes has a recurrent ingrown toenail. It swells up, turns red, and there is a -|- discharge.

Is this serious enough to warrant a visit to the podiatrist?

Thank you for your e-mail, yes by your description you definately need to consult with a podiatrist that would either treat it conservatively or do a nailwedge resection with phenolisation. This is a small procedure where a piece of the nail is permanently removed on the affected side. If the procedure is done properly the nail will never ingrown again and you will end up with a normal looking nail. For your nearest podiatrist contact www.podiatrist.co.za or 0861 100 249
