Protein and cholesterol
What effect does protein have on cholesterol?
Hi Hennie
Cholesterol is a waxy substance that we find only in animal products. Thus protein foods e.g. egg yolk, full cream milk, beef, lamb, chicken, liver, cheese, ice-cream and processed meats etc. all contain different levels of cholesterol which will increase your cholesterol if you consume too much thereof. The recommended daily intake of cholesterol is a max of 300mg. Therefore always look at the ingredient labels and steer away from the protein foods high in fat e.g. beef, lamb, egg yolk and full cream milk. I always recommend eating red meat only once a week – rather opt for chicken without the skin, ostrich, venison and pork fillet.
Take care.
