If you're in Cape Town you can help raise commuter cycling's profile by joining the monthly Moonlight Mass Night Cycle. This free, informal gathering of cyclists, held regularly on full moon nights, is now the city's biggest social bike ride. The ride begins under the Green Point Circle and part of the challenge is getting to the start by non-motorised or public transport.

Cape Town Bicycle Commuter: Info on Critical Mass rides held last Friday of every month. The idea behind Critical Mass, which is now a world-wide movement held in hundreds of cities, is that cyclists gather and ride en masse to make a clearly visible statement, thereby raising awareness of the importance of urban commuter cycling.

Cape Town Bicycle Commuter also organises crowd commuting, where cyclists ride to work together to improve safety and make cycling a more fun, sociable experience.

Johannesburg cyclists hold regular Critical Mass rides.

Durban: Critical Mass rides last Friday of every month, start from Moses Madiba Stadium.

Pretoria: last Friday of every month, start from Huckleberry's Cafe in Magnolia Dell Park.
