To make matters worse, flu complications can be life-threatening. What should you, as a parent, know?

Take action:
Look out for signs of flu, so that you can act fast. Rapid onset of fever, dry cough, chills, muscle aches and headaches are common symptoms. Younger children tend to have high fevers and may experience stomach problems such as nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea. Certain antiviral medicines can be given to children as young as one year of age. Speak to your doctor about suitable treatment the moment you start noticing symptoms. Remember, flu spreads like wildfire, so it's important to get proper treatment within 12 - 48 hours.
