Unemployed scammed by bogus ads for hospital jobs

People responding to adverts for jobs at some of Gauteng’s hospitals in exchange for a deposit fee are being swindled as the offers are bogus and were not been made by the Gauteng Department of Health.

No payment required

The department has issued serious warnings about the bogus job adverts, which use the DoH name to fraudulently invite people to apply for vacancies at various health facilities around the province. One website – www.neuvoo.co.za – was advertising posts at Leratong Hospital, asking applicants for an upfront payment of R1 000 for a guaranteed job.

The Department said another suspect is alleged to have been scamming community members directly, targeting people desperate for jobs by convincing them to pay R1 800 for employment at Helen Joseph Hospital in Johannesburg.

Gauteng Department of Health media liaison officer Patricia Mokoena said: "We want to state firmly that no money is required to apply for a job in the public service. The department advertises vacancies through appropriate and trustworthy channels such as the Gauteng Online portal, the Department of Public Service website and we also publish adverts in the relevant media."

Call the police

"Furthermore, employment application forms at our hospitals are dropped in designated boxes and these are processed through the shortlisting and interview process," Mokoena added.

The department encouraged anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam to report the matter to the police so that criminal charges can be laid and the perpetrators can be caught.

Police at Duduza in Ekurhuleni have also warned that a man is going around the community offering unemployed people guaranteed jobs for an administration fee of R1 000.

Duduza SAPS spokesperson Harry Manaka said, “People should avoid giving money to secure employment. The police are calling on the victims and those with information to come forward."
