So you think eating healthily will cost you a fortune? Think again. Follow these five easy steps and discover that eating well is better for better for you… and your budget, too.

Sure there’s a time and place for convenience meals, but you’ll find when you take a little extra time to cook your meal, you’ll be more interested in the quality and origins of the ingredients you buy. “This isn’t about buying lots of expensive food you’ll only use once,” says Woolworths TASTE contributing food editor Hannah Lewry. “Rather spend your budget on fewer high-quality, simple ingredients and build your meals around those.”

It doesn’t have to be a time-consuming business. “Setting aside time over a weekend to plan a few meals around a versatile ingredient like mince will slash the cost of your weekly shop,” says Hannah. Wholegrains like spelt are also an affordable building-block to cook in large quantities for your fridge. They’ll take you from a feel-good breakfast to a filling office lunch and a more-than-satisfying midweek supper.
