Hi Doc, I am experiencing dark spot on my beard area after shaving. I exfoliate my face before shaving and apply moisturizer and even sunscreen but the problem still persist. Which products would you recommend to use?.

Thank you for the question.

This is a difficult question to answer over the net as ideally one would like to examine the dark spot before deciding on the best treatment approach.

From your description it sounds like a hyperpigmented mark most probably through sun damage, but your best option is to see a dermatologist who can examine the mark and give a definitive diagnosis and treatment approach.

Generally speaking hyperpigmentation can be lightened with the use of a vitamin C serum in the mornings followed by a SPF 30 or higher that contains zinc oxide and or titanium dioxide.

Then at night I would add a retinol or vitamin A based serum to your regime.

Please see the links below for some examples of vitamin C and retinol serums.

Retinol serums: https://skinmiles.com/shop/product-type/vitamin-a-retinol/

You may need to consider IPL (Intense pulse light) or even laser to effectively remove the dark spot.

I hope the above has helped but let me know if you need any further info.

Kind regards

Dr Alek Nikolic
