Hereditary dark rings under eyes

Hi Doc - Happy New Year! Hope 2022 is good to you! As long as I can remember I have had extremely dark rings under my eyes. It is hereditary - my mom and grandmother had this too. I have always been conscious about it and have tried in vain to treat them independently (drink lots of water, sleep enough, aloe gel, supplements, tea bags on eyes, cucumber slices, ice - pretty much any home remedy you care to mention, I have tried it). As I have gotten older (I am now 38), they have become more pronounced and I currently look like a crack-addicted vampire. I work in a professional environment and, as such, it is compromising for me to rock the Undead Heroine Chick look. I do not want to resort to surgery and am hoping that there is something you could recommend that would help. Thank you for all you do!

Thank you for the question and my sincerest apologies for the long delay with my response. There was an IT glitch, and my account was locked out. Dark rings under the eyes are typically caused by four main reasons:

Increased vascularity: treated with a laser vein removal device

Hyperpigmentation: treated with laser

Tear trough groove: treated with dermal fillers

Combination of the above

Your best option would be to see an aesthetic medical practitioner or a dermatologist who can examine the area to decide on the best treatment approach.
