Dear Millicent,

Natural killer cells are part of your body's immune system. They form part of the immune response which ideally is there to protect your body from infection and harm. However sometimes this immune response may be heightened and function inappropriately. This is usually as a result of auto-immune conditions. As you report a history of multiple first trimester losses and "elevated levels of NK cells" suggest an immune system problem, it is essential that you get screened for antiphospholipid syndrome.

If you have antiphospholipid syndrome you will need to be treated with anti-coagulation medication in your next pregnancy and this will reduce your chance of miscarriage.
