What is Campaigning for Cancer?

accreditation

Campaigning for Cancer is an advocacy organisation that was formed in 2008 to give South African cancer patients and those affected by the disease a voice.

According to the World Health Organisation, cancer accounts for approximately one in every eight deaths globally.  Despite this jarring fact, South Africa is not giving enough attention to this important matter.   Our country does not even have a National Cancer Control Plan (the plan by which the Government proposed to deal with cancer) – Zimbabwe and Tanzania have one. Because of this, we must talk about it so that cancer can be seen as a disease that deserves more attention both from ourselves and our political figures.

By using the tool and principle of Advocacy, Campaigning for Cancer does this on an individual patient level - changing one life at a time - by providing people with the knowledge and tools to see their treatment process through; as well as on a larger scale - by noting issues highlighted by these individual cases and lobbying for policy change that will affect all of society.
