When your feet drag you down

When you go on holiday, the golden rule is to look after your feet, so they can look after you. Many a holiday has been scuttled by blisters, ingrown toenails, foot infections or strained muscles – many of which are caused by ill-fitting shoes.

Take action:
Choose your walking shoes carefully for your trip – with the help of a podiatrist, if necessary; buy shoes that are half a size to a size bigger than your normal size as feet may swell during walking; visit your podiatrist before you leave to sort out any foot problems you may have in advance; take an antifungal cream with you, as well as antiseptic cream and plasters; don't wear the same shoes every day while you are on holiday; don't walk barefoot in dirty areas; don't wear tight-fitting shoes on long-distance flights.
