New research has found that people with mild Covid-19 infection may also experience a drop in lung function. The study published in The Journal of Infectious Diseases investigated the extent to which a group of Danish people's lungs were affected by mild Covid-19.

The cohort consisted of 606 people, with 85.9% testing positive for Covid-19. The participants completed a questionnaire, underwent a physical health examination including spirometry, a test used to assess how well their lungs work, and gave blood samples for analysis.

The participants were part of an ongoing lung study, called the Copenhagen General Population Study. The participants had pre-pandemic spirometry data available.
