New research has found that progressive exercise and getting people mobile early on may help them recover from severe respiratory illness such as Covid-19.

The study published in Physiotherapy reviewed whether rehabilitation benefitted patients who were admitted to intensive care units (ICU) or critical care with respiratory illness.

Information on people with Covid-19 was not available when the research started, but researchers say that the findings could also apply to Covid-19 patients.
