World Down Syndrome Day was on 21 March 2017. One in 650 babies in the developing world are diagnosed with this chromosomal disorder, resulting in physical and intellectual delays. Despite this, their inclusion in mainstream schools has been shown to improve their learning capabilities. 

The story of Nyakallo Khumalo-Mofokeng

The video below follows Baatile Khumalo-Mofokeng, the mother of a child with Down syndrome in Atteridgeville, who has been fighting for inclusive education policies for all children in South Africa. Both she and her husband have started support groups for parents of children with Down syndrome.
