A physical barrier doesn’t have to fight with your home’s aesthetic. 5. Armed Bars provide peace of mind
While traditional polycarbonate bars can withstand a lot of pressure (a brick or hammer will not easily penetrate the bar) and their flexibility makes it more difficult to detatch them from the frame using a crowbar, they may not hold up well against a prolonged attack, as is true for many other security measures.
Should the Armed Bars be cut, melted, kicked out or tampered with in an attempted burglary, the thin wire will break and activate the alarm, thereby alerting you and your alarm company to respond. The in-series connection of the wires in the transparent security bars receives an electrical pulse from the alarm board and the end-of-line resistor protects the bars if the electrical pulse is bypassed or bridged.
6. It will fit any size window
You can fit Armed Bars up to 1m in width without having to place any cross fits on the bar. If you use cross fits, you can go infinity, as long as no fitments are more than 1m apart.
7. They will stand the test of time
The bars used for Armed Bars have UV protection on both sides, which means you don’t have to worry about them yellowing in the sun over time.
8. Easy maintenance
Just like glass panels, these bars require cleaning to remove dust and provide a clear view. A soft damp cloth will do the job perfectly and special cleaning kits are also available. The thin armed wire is also corrosion-protected and will therefore not rust.
9. They’re affordable
The supply and fit of Armed Bars for a standard-size window of 650mm x 650mm will be roughly R685. Price difference depends on the type of fitment required by the customer; the cost of connecting the wired system to the alarm board will be additional.
10. Make sure to use a reputable installer
As the transparent burglar bar industry is currently unregulated, it is important to use a reputable installer. Before accepting a quotation for these attractive polycarbonate products, we recommend the following steps are taken to prevent any possible disappointment:
- Make sure that the installer has a reputable track record;
- Insist on proof of independent tests done on the polycarbonate being used;
- Ensure that the installer is registered with a controlling body such as TBASA (Transparent Barrier Association of South Africa);
- Request installation specifications before accepting a quotation.
