Irene van Gend of Somerset East writes: I inherited this artwork (470 x 320mm) by Victor Visser from my parents. Do you have any information on the artist and the possible value of the piece?

Kayleen Wrigley of Walker Scott Art Advisory replies: Victor Visser was an artist from the Strand in the Western Cape where he lived with his wife and four daughters. He is best known for his landscape paintings with mountains and country scenes being his favourite subject matter. Visser lived a private life; he didn’t exhibit his work regularly and seldom promoted himself. As such, his works do not fetch very high prices. He is probably best remembered as an influential art teacher to some of South Africa’s favourite artists, including Michael Albertyn.
