You might think you’ve been transported to a medina in Morocco, but this exotic starshaped pool is located in the courtyard of the charming Nooitgedacht Country House outside Swellendam. “The house and pool were built by the previous homeowners 12 years ago,” says current owner Danielle de Wet. “We lived here when we bought the farm five years ago, before turning it into luxury self-catering accommodation.”

The house is built around the courtyard and many of the living areas and bedrooms have doors that open onto it, creating an intimate space where you can relax without any intrusion from the outside world. “If it’s too windy to sit out on the front stoep, the courtyard provides the perfect spot!” says Danielle.
