Frikkie Greef, Managing Director of Woodoc says: Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR is specially formulated for maximum protection without the unwanted ‘yellowing’ effect common when it comes to solvent-based floor coatings. As an added bonus, quick-drying Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR is virtually odourless and brushes used for application are easily cleaned with water.
It’s vital that at least three liberal coats are applied to the wood, undiluted, and that sufficient product is used on the first application to ensure complete saturation of the wood. This way, the second and third coats won’t penetrate; instead, they build up to form a protective surface film.
Preparation and application: Sand the floor with an industrial floor sander to as fine a finish as possible. Then wipe down the floor thoroughly with mineral turpentine to remove any dust or old waxes and oils that may have been brought to the surface during the process.
When the floor is clean and dry, apply three liberal coats of Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR with a good quality brush, allowing each coat to dry thoroughly before applying the next (coverage: 3.3m²/L for three coats). The product should be applied undiluted directly from the container.
NOTE Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR dries rapidly; ensure that an even coat is applied and left to dry without being disturbed and make sure there’s plenty of ventilation.
A very light sanding is recommended after the first coat has dried completely.
Maintenance: Firstly, and most importantly, never wash the floor with water – especially not water and detergent! This will make the floor dull and water will penetrate between the blocks or planks, causing the wood to swell which may result in the planks warping or the blocks ‘popping’ out. In general, it should be sufficient to sweep the floor with a soft broom to keep it clean and stubborn dirt or sticky spots can be removed with a damp cloth.
From time to time, apply a liquid wax such as Woodoc Penetrating Furniture Wax to the floor sparingly; you can also buff occasionally.
It’s always a good idea to put felt or something similar beneath chair and table legs to prevent the floor from getting scratched. If scratches do appear, lightly sand the affected area with steel wool dipped in Woodoc Penetrating Furniture Wax. A deep scratch or gouge may require deeper sanding; thereafter, ‘patch’ the area with a coat or two of Woodoc Water-Borne FLOOR.
