From tired living room to restful haven

accreditation

Thanks to the Dulux Colours of the World™ Soulful Kenya™palette, this tired living room has been transformed into a restful haven inspired by the timeless beauty of Africa. Turn your decorating dreams into reality!

Picture it, before you paint it. Use the Dulux Visualizer app to create the perfect palette in any space you like.

After moving into their new home, Liz-Maré and Ron Stain were keen to make the most of their open-plan living area by creating a more sociable and inviting space.

With dark wood heirloom furniture and leather couches they adore, the couple wanted to create a colour scheme inspired ?by Mother Earth with natural tones reminiscent of the plains of Africa and warm hues that would complement their existing pieces.

The Soulful Kenya™ palette from the Dulux Colours of the World™ collection was just what they were after. Inspired by one of the world’s most beautiful landscapes, Soulful Kenya™ offers five unique shades of washable, low-odour interior wall paint that complement one another effortlessly.

What they did...

1. The TV was moved out of sight, which offered a clean palette for creating a feature wall painted in Truly Kenya™, with the adjacent wall painted in Gentle Kenya™.

2.  The display cabinet with its glass doors (left) was handmade by Ron when he was still in high school. It was left as is – just look how beautifully the rich wood complements the colour on the walls! Combined with the wall décor and crisp white display items, it creates a restful corner in this living room.

3.  The old corner unit with its dark veneer now boasts a fresh new look (right). It was primed with Dulux Supergrip then painted with two coats of Gently Kenya™; it matches the upcycled coffee table perfectly. Afterwards, the door at the bottom of the unit was distressed using 120-grit sandpaper to enhance the earthy look.

4.  The plasma unit, before the makeover an unsightly hand-me-down, was transformed into a beautiful coffee table. The Stains simply removed the backboard, primed the unit with Dulux Supergrip and then painted the bottom part in Gentle Kenya™ ?and the top in Rich Kenya™. The colours perfectly complement ?the leather couch, coir carpet and soft hues on the walls.
