Toke Makinwa is one of Africa’s most recognizable names. The Nigerian-born media mogul has been dubbed Africa’s “it girl”, and she has the credentials to prove it.

Now, after the success of projects such as launching a luxury accessories brand and hosting the Big Brother Nigeria buzz show, Makinwa has bagged her own TV show on DStv’s lifestyle channel, HONEY.

Talk With Toke Makinwa sees her sit down with some of the biggest African stars for an in-depth, heart-to-heart interview. The show’s guests include South Africa’s Pearl Thusi and DJ Zinhle, Zambia’s Mutale Mwanza and Uganda’s Zari “The Boss Lady.” We sat down with Makinwa for a catch-up.

You've made it clear in public that you have always wanted a talk show of this magnitude. What was your state of mind before filming started?

My state of mind was a high level of gratitude. I felt immensely grateful for the opportunity to be alive to watch a dream of mine come true. I was also eager to do my research on every guest. I wanted to make them feel like they were chatting to a friend.

What has been the most exciting part about sitting down with some of your guests?

Getting them to open up the way that they have with me was so beautiful. We got to go deeper into their lives and hear first-time stories too.

What's one thing people don't know about Toke Makinwa that might surprise them?

People don’t know that behind the tough exterior I am a pile of fluff. I love hugs.

What is one thing you're currently obsessed with?

Reels on Instagram. I can watch them all day.

Where is Toke Makinwa in 10 years' time?

I hope that I’m still here discovering my purpose. Hopefully by then I will have crossed over the African continent doing big things. I want my name to be known globally in both film and television. I also really want to meet Oprah and to expand my business.

Lastly, I hope to get married again soon and make beautiful babies and much more.

Catch Talk With Toke Makinwa, Fridays at WAT 16:30 | CAT 17:30 | EAT 18:30 only on HONEY (DStv 173).
