PROJECT NOTES

• Remember to drill pilot holes.

• Sand your wood beforehand.

• If you’d like to paint your planter box, choose a good quality water-resistant product.

1. Glue and screw the four 500 x 482mm sides together clockwise, using the 6mm x 50mm screws. Complete the ‘box’ by also gluing and screwing the base piece in place.

2. Make the legs by gluing and screwing four 22 x 69 x 600mm planks to the four 22 x 44 x 600mm planks. Glue and screw the legs to the corners of the box, with the top ends flush with the top of the box. Screw the 410mm horizontal planks between the legs to form a frame on each side.

3. Place one of the 22 x 44 x 560mm ‘cross’ planks diagonally across one side and mark the angle at which the ends should be cut so that they fit inside the frame. Repeat with all eight cross planks. Place a cross plank in position and position another one on top to determine where and at what angle this one should be cut to complete the cross. Cut four of the planks as marked, and glue and screw the four crosses to the sides of the box.

4. Turn the box upside down, mark about five equally-spaced drainage holes and drill holes with the 12mm spade bit. Fill all screw holes with wood filler and allow to dry completely; sand carefully. Paint or varnish the box in the colour of your choice.
