This pie is the easiest one to make and believe me, it will have your family begging for seconds!
Makes 1 decadent pie • Preparation time: 10 minutes
Baking time: 30 minutes • Oven temperature: 200°C; then 180°C
• 3 round Camembert cheeses
• 12 strips Black Forest ham (Parma ham is also delicious, but more expensive)
• 45ml onion marmalade or caramelised onions
• 400g puff pastry
• 1 beaten egg
• micro herbs and preserved green figs, to serve
Preheat the oven. Roll the puff pastry out on a floured surface. Spoon a strip of onion marmalade across the width of the pastry. Wrap each Camembert cheese in ham and place on top. Slice the pastry on either side of the filling into strips, brush with beaten egg and braid the strips over the filling to cover it. Brush the pastry with beaten egg and place it on a greased baking tray. Bake for 10 minutes, reduce the heat to 180°C and bake for a further 20 minutes or until golden brown and cooked. Serve immediately with green figs and a sprinkling of micro herbs. The decadent combination of hot cheese and pastry makes this a delicious starter or light meal with salad.
