
- - Vegetable oil, for frying
- 250 ml (1 cup) - SPAR self-raising flour
- - Salt and pepper, to taste
- 100 ml - sparkling water
- 4 pieces - SPAR hake
- 2 - SPAR eggs, beaten
- - SPAR frozen chips or sweet potato wedges
- - For serving
- - Lemon wedges
- - Vinegar
- - Tartar sauce
- - Tomato sauce
1 Heat the vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot.
2 In a large bowl, whisk together the flour and salt and pepper.
3 In another bowl, whisk the water and the eggs.
4 In batches, dust the fish with the flour, and then carefully dip into the egg batter. Shake off any excess, and then gently place into the oil. Fry until golden, 2-3 minutes per side. Drain on a paper towel-lined plate and season immediately with salt and pepper.
5 Fry or oven-bake the frozen chips.
6 Serve the fish and chips with lemon wedges, vinegar, tartar sauce and tomato sauce.
