The spiral pattern formed by the dune crowberry hedge complements the curvature of the house and adds structure to the spacious front garden. Karin du Plessis and her team from In & Outdoor Gardens planted the low hedge and are responsible for maintaining and pruning it (turn to page 117 to see how she created this design). “I felt that since the front garden is so big, it needs an impressive element,” says Marti. Her house is located quite far back on the property behind large trees. As the shape of the house wasn’t really to her liking, she wanted it to disappear. “The black on the exterior makes it recede and enhances the greenery in the garden,” she says. “It almost gives the garden a dark forest feel.
