With its nondescript white walls, dark furniture and worn finishes, this living room was in need of a drastic makeover. As a space where the Peters family of Bellville loves to gather, especially when a roaring fire is lit in mid-winter, the room was just too poky.
The natural tone of Steel Symphony 2 – Dulux Colour of the Year for 2017 – painted on the brickwork surrounding the fireplace provided the perfect starting point for a revamp. The family wanted to create a welcoming and tranquil environment in their home, and design a space where technology doesn’t take centre stage. Before, the focal point in the room was a large flat-screen TV on a stand next to the fireplace. But now this corner of the lounge has been transformed into an indoor sanctuary with the introduction of soft, inviting colours inspired by the Dulux Colour Futures trend of New Romanticism exploring the Magic of Life. The palette perfectly complements the new botanical décor elements, natural wicker chairs and jute carpet – bang on trend!
The brickwork around the fireplace was painted with Dulux PearlGlo™ Water-Based paint and the walls surrounding it showcase three complementary colours. Dulux Rich Matt was the perfect choice for the walls as it provides an ultra matt finish. The wooden mantelpiece was sanded and varnished. The end result is a stylish spot where the family can reconnect – and feel at home.
