In the 1990s former SARS executive Johann van Loggerenberg was a deep cover police agent, working for a unit that combatted organised crime. He rubbed shoulders with drug smugglers and corrupt cops in the Durban underworld who knew him only as ‘Jay’.  Here is an extract from his book 'Cop Under Cover'. 

The police compound in Durban’s Point area is surrounded by a very high, thick wall, which makes it look like a small fort. In the 1990s it housed offices and an armoury containing large numbers of munitions, handguns, automatic rifles and hand grenades.
