Publishers usually try to get their books on to shelves in October or so if they are to catch the year-end market. But that doesn't go for the publishers of former president Jacob Zuma's new book, which was sneaked on to the market this past weekend and apparently sold out of car boots – at the Sandton MacDonald's – as well as one bookshop. It's certainly the most mysterious book release of the year.

The book is titled Jacob Zuma Speaks: The Words of a President, or perhaps it's the other way around. It is published, as far as can be determined, by the JG Zuma Foundation.

Certainly it is the foundation's Mzwanele Manyi who has been hawking it around after a tweet announcing its appearance that was, nonetheless, a little uncertain about the actual date of release. "This long-awaited book will be made available in the 2nd or 3rd week of December 2021," tweeted Manyi, adding that it was "Reverting stuff" (sic).
