Faces Africa, the 947 Ride Joburg organisers, have announced Virgin Active as the race’s new title sponsor. A three-year deal will see the flagship event, along with the mountain bike and children’s ride subsidiaries, be known as the Virgin Active 947 Ride Joburg.
For entrants this signifies several benefits, including Train Joburg rides, indoor cycle classes and more.
A new addition for 2022 is the addition of a 35km route on the same day as the 97km route. This offers the perfect alternative for those riders who feel that they are not ready for the entire lap around Johannesburg. Both these routes will start and finish at FNB Stadium on 20 November and feature full road closure.
The 947 Ride Joburg mountain bike race and children’s events will take place on 12 and 13 November at Steyn City, using trails that are usually only accessible to residents Steyn City.
Safe and rewarding group rides
Virgin Active Clubs will host Train Joburg rides in the build-up to November. These will allow participants to join group rides on popular cycling routes such as into the Cradle, providing a safe alternative for banking those much-needed training miles.
Train Joburg rides will depart from Virgin Active clubs around Gauteng on various routes. Allowing cyclists to get fit and explore the province in a safe environment, with everything from technical support to a sweeper vehicle.
Non-gym members who register for the Train Joburg rides will get 24-hour access to a gym. They can use Virgin Active facilities for a post-ride shower or a meal from Kauai’s healthy menu. Or even support their outride with an indoor recovery or strength session.
Virgin Active’s popular spinning classes will also incorporate the 12-week 947 Ride Joburg training programme and event simulations in the lead-up to the event.
