- Summer riding necessitates summer riding gear.
- Ciovita’s Tinta flyweight jersey offers breathability in all the right places.
- The range includes three cuts catering for all shapes of cyclists.
Having the right cycling gear can mean the difference between a good ride and a great ride. While good bib shorts often receive all the glory, a jersey that fits well, looks good, and carries several small items is a significant advantage.
As riders increase their training load during South Africa’s warmest months, it is essential to have a jersey that gives you protection from the elements and features generous airflow. Ciovita’s Tinta flyweight jersey is designed with that specific goal in mind.
A tight jersey for tough rides
The Tinta jersey range features bold, powerful colours that change every season and are available in male and female versions. I chose the jersey in Canary Yellow, mainly because I value being visible on the road.
I tested the jersey in Ciovita’s form-fitting Pro Fit cut, which is great for riders that prefer tight-fitting cycling garments that don't flap and increase aerodynamic drag.
A skintight high-performance fit is designed to function best in aggressive riding positions and looks good paired with bib shorts. It even works with your favourite set of baggies if you are going for the business up top, party at the bottom look.
It keeps you cool - and aero
The Tinta flyweight jersey is constructed with ultra-lightweight fabrics. Design features include mesh inserts on the shoulders, sleeves and down the sides of the jersey that allow for maximum cooling on hot summer days.
Italian racing lycra features on the front and back of the jersey, a highly breathable material with two-way stretch, to ensure the jersey maintains its fit over time. The side panels and sleeves are polymesh.
Longer length sleeves give a bit more sun protection, added aerodynamic benefits and maximum comfort if you do your riding in the drops
A great long distance jersey, for summer
Despite its go faster theme, the Tinta flyweight jersey has many features that make it practical.
A wraparound elastic hem, with silicone grippers, keep the jersey in place no matter how much you load the three deep pockets with spares, snacks or even an extra bidon. The pockets also feature what Ciovita calls an anti-bounce system. This supports pocket stability no matter the.
I have worn this jersey extensively for the last three months, and it has proven comfortable in all conditions. Pair it with a merino base layer on colder mornings, or go jersey only for those hot summer days.
The deep pockets keep valuable items safe and secure, and there is always place for more while the bright colours and form-fitting design look good on and off the bike.
Sizing is on the smaller side of the spectrum, so be sure to consult Ciovita’s sizing chart. I had to take one size bigger than what I usually do.
In addition to their Pro Fit cut, Ciovita’s jersey range also includes Race fit and Sport fit options for those riders that prefer a more relaxed fit that offers a good balance between performance and comfort.
