  • Living Colour Adventure Rides take you into the splendour of rural South Africa, without the bother of organizing everything yourself.
  • Part of the experience has riders interact with communities instead of simply rolling through.
  • A good balance between riding and sightseeing promises a unique experience on the mountain bike or gravel bike.

The essence of riding a bicycle is exploring. It is a fundamental reason why children are drawn to riding. But when last did you do some real exploring on your bike?

Darling local and adventurer Kevin Wood has spent the last 40-years roaming southern and eastern Africa. His mission has been searching for locations distinguished by their beauty and serenity.

With the benefit of his journeying experience and a love of riding, Wood has launched Living Colour Adventure Rides.

Wood has put together three riding packages, where riders are hosted at authentically local overnight venues and enjoy farm to table dining.

To the mountains

The Wild Mountain Dirt ride explores the Southern Drakensberg around Rhodes. This area is known for its iconic mountain passes.

Riders will experience these incredible feats of engineering and design one pedal stroke at a time.

During three days of riding, mountain bikers will encounter iconic mountain area landmarks. These include Lundeans Nek, crossing the Kraai river via a vintage bridge and Makhollo, the highest point in the Eastern Drakensburg at 3001m.

Wild coast waterfalls

The Chasing Waterfalls Dirt ride takes place between Port Edward and Port St John along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in Southern Africa.

Riders experience 14 waterfalls, many of which are still unnamed. Highlights are Secret Falls and Waterfall Bluff, two of only a few waterfalls in the world that exit directly into the ocean.

Transkei Wild Coast homestays will allow riders to experience the area’s homes and villages. Including local cuisine, true to Pondoland culture.

Stargazing and singletrack

Living Colour’s Silver Star Ride ventures into the Great Karoo. Wood’s concept here is to bike during the day and enjoy beautiful skies at night.

Immense Karoo landscapes are contrasted at night by some of the world’s best stargazing skies. Accommodation is in unique Corbelled houses, some of which are national monuments.

All three adventures total four nights and three days of riding at a sedate pace. The Living Colour Adventure Rides look to offer a good balance of exploring without the need to cover massive distances

Those riders looking for a smaller dose of adventure can join Wood in Darling for a guided tour of the lesser-known trails in the rolling hills around Darling.

The day starts with a delicious breakfast before riders tackle a 39km route. It takes in the area's best views and fauna and flora before culminating at Ormonde Wine Estate for a wine tasting and cheese platter.
