After years of segmented specialisation, Mathieu van der Poel and Tom Pidcock have shown that pro riders can compete on- and off-road. In a single season.

The most dominant young riders of their generation, Van der Poel and Pidcock race road, cyclocross and mountain bikes. But the true trailblazer for this multidisciplinary approach is French rider, Pauline Ferrand-Prévot.

In 2015, Ferrand-Prévot produced an incredible year on the bike. She won the road, cyclocross and mountain biking world championships – all in a single season. Mountain biking world titles followed this in 2019 and 2020.
