Most professional mountain bikers have a format that they prefer. To be competitive, you must specialise. Focusing on enduro, cross-country, or gravity riding.

That's why you see so few professional mountain bikers race road. Or vice versa. Perhaps it's for comfort reasons, knowing they can perform in a familiar format, or a fear of the unknown.

However, for 21-year-old Nelspruit rider, Zandri Strydom, testing the waters is a must. And her risk is seemingly always rewarded with multi-discipline success.
