My Olympic experience was very nearly over before it began.

Before leaving for Tokyo, I had two (nasal) Covid tests, one of which returned positive. This meant I could not board my scheduled flight and had to wait for further test results to determine whether I would be allowed to fly to Tokyo.

I went to bed that night in fear, not only from a Covid perspective but also knowing that I hadn’t been able to secure another flight. Upon waking up at 5am, I received flight confirmation and was given the green light from a Covid point of view. I managed to make my flight and embarked on what was a 50-hour travel ordeal.
